“Solid State Chemicals” is a testament to the band’s more melancholic, reflective, and dreamy side, but also further proof that they can write melodies that linger in the memory long after the last chord has faded.

Description
Dead Star Talk’s massive and melodic guitar-driven sound is instantly recognizable. Two vocalists wielding guitars front the band, which has no roots and is based in Hamburg (DE) and Copenhagen (DK). The two vocalists are Christian Buhl, who was born in Germany to Danish parents, raised in Brussels (BE), and eventually settled in Hamburg (DE), and Günes Kocak, who was born in Turkey to Turkish parents, fled to Denmark at an early age, and eventually settled there. The band’s core is the rhythm section of Erik Jensen (bass guitar) and Claus Nielsen (drums).
“Solid State Chemicals” follows in the footsteps of the band’s debut album “Too Many Too Much,” a 10-track full-length album produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by legendary Grammy Award-winning Metallica producer Flemming Rasmussen at his Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The result is the band’s best work to date. The band stays true to the melodic, polyphonic, guitar-driven sound of Dead Star Talk while boldly venturing into new sonic territory, such as utilizing the unique psychedelic properties of the Turkish Saz guitar. As Flemming Rasmussen himself puts it: “Working on Solid State Chemicals really got me excited; it’s still very much Dead Star Talk, but it’s more layered and complex than the previous work we’ve done. Through this album, I believe many people will discover that this band offers much more than the simplistic guitar rock nostalgia that often dismisses them.”
“Solid State Chemicals” follows in the footsteps of the band’s debut album. The songs seamlessly transition from strutting, “wall of sound” shoegaze anthems to reflective and delicate ballads, all the while toying with a lyrical universe that takes obvious inspiration from the Pop Art movement, with its penchant for hiding deeper meaning behind deceptively simple, recognizable, ironic, and almost mass-produced melodic lines.
“Solid State Chemicals” is a testament to the band’s more melancholic, reflective, and dreamy side, but also further proof that they can write melodies that linger in the memory long after the last chord has faded.
