“Cattin'” is a jazz album by the group 4 Of A Kind, featuring renowned Italian pianist Dado Moroni. Recorded in 2000, the album is notable for its unique recording process, where all tracks were captured in a single take by four musicians in a church converted into a studio. This approach highlights the spontaneity and improvisational skill of the group, reflecting Moroni’s mastery of jazz piano. The album is part of the 4 Of A Kind project, which emerged from a collaboration between Moroni and percussionist Jeroen de Rijk in New York.

Description

Description

Edgardo “Dado” Moroni, born on October 20, 1962, in Genoa, Italy, is a distinguished jazz pianist whose career spans decades and continents.

Introduced to jazz at an early age through his parents’ record collection, Dado began playing the piano at just four years old. His formative influences included jazz legends such as Fats Waller, Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, Charlie Parker and Oscar Peterson.

Dado’s professional journey commenced at fourteen, performing across Italy with notable musicians. His international breakthrough came in 1979 when he collaborated with Swiss trumpet virtuoso Franco Ambrosetti. Since then, Dado has shared the stage with jazz luminaries including Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, and Wynton Marsalis.

Dado Moroni continues to captivate audiences worldwide with his exceptional talent and innovative approach to jazz piano. In 1994 through Dutch bassist Joris Teepe he met and became friends with percussionist Jeroen de Rijk in New York.

A few days later and together with Joris they went into a Brooklyn studio to record a trio album under Jeroen’s name called ‘Speak Low’. Out of that encounter the ‘4 Of A Kind’ music project came to life.

Over the years the group played – and still plays – on various occasions in Italy, Switzerland and Holland.

Funny enough this was in both trio and quartet settings, but always with Dado and Jeroen.

In the year 2000 ‘Cattin” was recorded, an album with noting but one take recordings by 4 men in a church transformed into a studio.
